JAH is a 10 day celebration of Black History Month in the Motherland. It carries a vision, which seeks to give reality to building a multi-layered bridge between the African diaspora and South Africa.
Jazz is intrinsically an African concept, which conveys the message to the world that "this is our sound", and in this case it gives to the African Diaspora an instant sense of identity.
Africa is our Motherland - that which binds all Africans, universally throughout the diaspora. It is Africa which is subject to a host of challenges which require the consolidation of all its children to face these challenges and set the foundation for a better life for all Africans in the motherland and in the vast Diaspora in which we find our fellow Africans.
The third pillar is our Heritage, which cuts across historical, cultural and political boundaries. Heritage is an expansion of our achievements as people, coming together for the purpose of celebrating a common bond. The North West Province boldly positions itself as South Africa's Heritage destination, communicating the brand message "Taking Pride in Our Heritage".
Over the years politicians and music artists alike have voiced their passion for building this bridge, now we are happy to say that, the bridge has been found, that bridge is JAH 2008.
Black History Month has been recognized annually since 1929, first as Negro History Week and later as Black History Month, it was created by African Americans as a celebration of Black Achievement in Science, Arts, Sports, Business, Politics, Religion and History of Humankind. Now you can join that celebration in the Motherland, the continent of your ancestors, at home in South Africa for a Jazz inspired Family Reunion™.
